Why work with other professionals?
Unmani encourages her clients to get the most accurate information available to make the challenging decisions divorce demands. The most accurate information is often beyond the scope of Unmani's family law training, and instead lies with other professionals-like clinical psychologists, financial planners, child specialists (who give children a voice in the process), estate attorneys, CPAs, and business valuators.
In mediation, where the law doesn't automatically take center stage, there is room for other professionals to give sound guidance. This team approach has clients served by the professionals who specialize in the information the clients need. As the mediator, Unmani coordinates the information given by the other professionals and fits it into the mediation framework. Clients sign a release of confidentiality between the professionals they choose to work with so the professionals are able to help resolve the clients' issues as a team.
An integral key to successful mediation is getting the most accurate information from the professionals best trained to give it.
Divorce Coaches/Child Specialists
Unmani works with various mental health professionals. Divorce coaches and/or child specialists consider clients' child custody arrangement and aid them in figuring out a schedule that fits the needs of both the parents and the children. Coaches also work with couples on their communication skills to make mediation with Unmani as efficient as possible.
Financial Specialists
Clients may also choose to work with a financial specialist. The information a financial planner provides is invaluable, for it gives clients the opportunity to know their full financial picture before they make any decisions on asset allocation or possible support. Also, their knowledge of tax implications, long-term or otherwise, can often save clients money by helping them chose alternatives that minimize tax consequences.
